Meet Coeur d’Alene Naturopath & Chiropractor, Dan O’Neill

How I Got Here From There!

Dr. Dan O'NeillLike many of you, I was not really acquainted with alternative health care prior to my own personal health challenges. My first experience came when I was in a car wreck at about 30 years of age. The impact was great enough that it broke the seat off its’ mounting rails and left me in the back seat starting up at the roof of my car. Fortunately, a neighbor recommended I go see his chiropractor, who happened to do Applied Kinesiology (AK) and I was both restored to health by the treatment and fascinated by the investigative nature of AK.

From that time on, it was in the back of my mind to pursue an alternative health care career. So after completing my military career as a Naval Aviator specializing in helicopter rescue work and aircraft accident investigation, and a two year stint as a helicopter pilot in the logging industry, I became a student at Western States Chiropractic College. While attending WSCC, I also interned for two years in the office of an instructor for National Naturopathic College, who held a PhD in renal physiology and was a pioneer in Applied Kinesiology.

Dr. Santo Pullella, my mentor, met with Dr. Alan Beardall and Dr. Ladd among others as part of a weekly study group. And I was privileged to benefit from working in Dr. Pullella’s office directly under his personal training. During that time, he strongly encouraged me to continue pursuing Applied Kinesiology and alternative healthcare, which I have continued to do to this day. I am still just as excited now as I was then, when I find a technique or technology which can really help to benefit and restore people’s health: advancing the frontiers of integrative medicine!

Sometimes Life Takes Mysterious Turns

Shortly after graduation from WSCC, my wife and I moved to beautiful Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to begin a new chapter in our lives. But then a couple years later, my wife began to develop mysterious symptoms which, over a period of about 15 years, gradually took over her life. First, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Then food allergies, chemical sensitivities and a compromised immune system. At one point she had a list of 5 foods she could eat. She also had to carry a herbicide grade respirator, medical oxygen and an Epi-Pen with her at all times as she would go into toxic shock with the slightest exposure to pesticides or herbicides. Even if she did not smell them.

It was within this timeframe that the naturopathic aspects of the practice really began to develop as I searched for something to help her get well. Then, about 15 years ago I heard of a new energetic kinesiology procedure called Neuromodulation Technique which had been developed by Dr. Leslie Feinberg, a fellow graduate. I attended his very first seminar and at the end of the first day, the information seemed too good to be true and I was highly skeptical. By the end of the second day I was intrigued, and by the end of the third, I felt this technique was a game changer that could almost certainly help my wife.

And help it did! Many of her food allergies were resolved and she was able to begin eating ‘real food’ again. Her severe chemical sensitivities resolved. We called her the NMT Poster Child. She has been transformed from someone almost homebound with very little in the way of food choices to being able to travel to Europe and Central America among other places and to eat a much wider variety of foods. Her life was truly given back. But, many of her symptoms, including chronic fatigue and immune compromise, although improved some, continued to limit her life and so my search went on.

Then about eight years ago, the mystery was solved. My wife had Lyme Disease. In the time since then I have diligently researched various protocols and treatments, selecting the most effective of many alternative methods and the wonderful news is Katrina is now Lyme free! She also had numerous co-infections which we are picking off along with other protocols for heavy metals, organ system repair, etc. Although the CDC stated there is no such thing as chronic Lyme we believe she had it for about 30 years. Given how entrenched her condition has been, she is responding very well! My patients are also benefitting!

Wellness Care That Works

Over the years, we have served many patients in North Idaho with similar issues. As we are treating those who test positive for Lyme with energetic testing, they are delighted with their results! We do find that those whose condition is new seem to respond more quickly to treatment, although the literature does say some people who test positive for Lyme never show symptoms while others who have only recently contracted the disease can become severely affected very quickly.

My wife and I are continually blessed both with her continuing recovery of health and with our enjoyment of life in North Idaho where we enjoy kayaking, photography, snow shoeing, hiking, camping, bicycling, traveling and just soaking in the beauty of this remarkable place we call home.

We would like to help you find the same relief I was able to provide Katrina. If you suspect you might have Lyme, please complete our assessment and schedule an appointment today with Coeur d’Alene Wellness. It is possible to live life fully again!
